Cultural Heritage GPS Trail and DVD
Organisation: Carlton Bolling School, Thornton Grammar School, St Josephs Catholic College and Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College, Bradford
A cross curricular project involving students from secondary schools across the district, researching, scripting, writing and filming an area of Bradford - looking at shared heritage, migration diversity and achievements. The project also involved the production of an accompanying GPS hand held computer trail for students around the area.
Both resources are aimed at upper KS2 and KS3 and were made by students in Bradford schools, for Bradford children and young people. Students wanted to stress through their work that:
- Bradford people have a lot to be proud of in terms of achievement
- Bradford has always been diverse
- The city's diversity includes ethnicity, language, nationality, culture, age, gender, marital status, religion, political belief, disability, and socio-economic background
The Cultural Heritage GPS Trail and DVD are useful for addressing citizenship, geography, history, ICT, RE and English programmes of study. The also address whole-school issues and wider community cohesion agendas such as schools working together on regional linking initiatives, increased interaction between schools and local communities (learning outside the classroom); Year 6 - Year 7 transition; and transferability (i.e. schools undertaking similar projects based around their own geographical areas and communities and the possibility of sharing GPS trails and videos as resources with local communities).
