My views on migration

Posted Tuesday 13th May 2008 12:11 in Migration

I read the bit on the WDWTWA website about migration (http://www.wdwtwa.org.uk/news/55/these-days-people-are-on-the-move.html) and it made me think about my own family. My grandparents came to Britain from Jamaica in the 1950s. They say they were invited to this country to help re-build it after the war. They always talk about how hard life was in the 1950s and 1960s...because white people said they were taking their jobs and there was a lot of racism. I think things have improved, but some things are still bad. In my school we are all very mixed. People's families have come from all over the world and we all just get along. The stories we share about our different family lives are really interesting...and most of my friends speak different languages. I think I learn more about life in other countries from talking with my friends than from my geography lessons. Perhaps if we could go out on more visits to find out about life in other countries - instead of just reading books - it would be more fun! I wish we had more time to travel around the world learning about different cultures.
