I read the bit on the WDWTWA website about migration (http://www.wdwtwa.org.uk/news/55/these-days-people-are-on-the-move.html) and it made me think about my own family. My grandparents came to Britain from Jamaica in the 1950s. They say they were invited to this country to help re-build it after the war. They always talk about how hard life was in the 1950s and 1960s...because white people said they were taking their jobs and there was a lot of racism. I think things have improved, but some things are still bad. In my school we are all very mixed. People's families have come from all over the world and we all just get along. The stories we share about our different family lives are really interesting...and most of my friends speak different languages. I think I learn more about life in other countries from talking with my friends than from my geography lessons. Perhaps if we could go out on more visits to find out about life in other countries - instead of just reading books - it would be more fun! I wish we had more time to travel around the world learning about different cultures.

I sometimes think it would be good to travel to another country and stay there for a few months to try to learn a new language and find out about a new religion and stuff. If more kids did this, then I don't think we wouldn't be so mean to people who come to Britain to start a new life and have to learn English.

I don't think things have changed much since the 1950s. New people in my school get called names because they can't speak English properly...and I don't think this is fair. It's still racism!

My school is mixed but some schools around are for only Muslims or only Christains and i think this is racist. Some people deserve to have a new life here in Britian. For some it's their last chance to have a half-decent life. Although i do think that if they migrate to Britain they should try to learn the language.

I think that racism expands through our years and it keeps getting worse. But it can only hurt as much as you let it.We are all equal in our ways. We ARE all human

i think it is racist when you have schools for christians and muslims and sikhs it should all be mixed schools so people can get used to there religions and have mixed friends and not have all white friends and when we see them we wont take the micky out of them because we have friends with that religion

I have a grandad who is highly racist. so its not that easy fighing for someone when your family is against you. My grandad is racist but that doesnt change my veiws. i think everyone should have a equal life. we all deserve a house and food. its not in anyones nature to give up on what we belive in. so im never gonna stop until everyone in this world has a safe place to sleep. laura-anne xo?
