The Ford Maddox Brown online resource contains a series of interactive activites to allow young people to interpret the painting and the ideas within it (for example, urban growth and migration/immigration, attitudes to education, alcohol and temperance, and infant mortality). In addition, there is an extensive downloadable cross-curricular teacher resource pack, glossaries, transcripts and suggestions for further activities based around the History, Citizenship, Art and Literacy curricula. There is also a pupil gallery area for sending in images of pupils' work based on the resource which can be uploaded to the website. A pre-bookable gallery session about Victorian Manchester using drama and role play activities has also been developed based on these themes.
