Exploring Archives is a series of 4 resource packs developed as part of MLA London's Archives and Education Innovation Project, 2004-2006, and were researched and written by Dr. Roshi Naidoo. The resources consider how a range of archival items can be used to discuss citizenship and, in particular, confront difficult issues such as inequality, human rights abuses worldwide and the legacies of colonialism.
The George Padmore Institute's archive education pack considers three main themes: ‘Why People Protest', ‘The Caribbean Artists' Movement' (CAM) and ‘Information is Power'. These themes are explored through the use of 30, full colour A4-sized prints of artwork, documentary photographs, leaflets, posters and literature from the GPI archive collections. The pack contains five activities linked to the archive resources, providing lesson ideas and teacher guidance on how to use the resources and also suggestions on how to host classroom discussions and debates. Extension activities, writing frames and a glossary are also included. The pack comes with a CD-Rom containing digitised images of the 30 items featured in the resource pack.
