The following sets of introductory lesson activities help teachers and young people explore the question 'Who Do We Think We Are?'. Both sets of resources are suitable for use at Key Stages 2 and 3, with adaptations.

During the Different Identities lesson pupils are encouraged to carry out 3 discursive activities which help them address the following key questions, concepts and skills:

  • To explore different ways that young people describe themselves
  • To develop pupils language around expressing their identities
  • To help pupils recognize that they have many ways of describing themselves and each other
  • To encourage pupils to examine the ways that identities change over a day/week/month
  • To explore how identities develop in relationships to those around them.
  • To assist pupils to develop ideas around multi identities
  • To explore the concept that identities can be chosen

The lesson plan for 'What's in a Name?' features activities designed to address the following aims:

  • To introduce pupils to exploring aspects of identity
  • To create and inclusive activity for investigating the diversity existing within all classrooms
  • To create an inclusive framework for looking at how identity can come from a variety of sources
  • To examine how names can affect identities and attitudes.
