This resource pack is designed to support teaching and learning about the European Union within the context of the citizenship curriculum. The pack is aimed at 11-16 year olds, but most relevant for Key Stage 4. There is adaptability for Key Stage 3. The pack includes paper resources, a DVD, and a CD Rom, all of which offer a comprehensive introduction to the European Union and the European Parliament.
The paper resources include lesson plans, an assembly plan, 30 colour mystery cards, and activity sheets. The mystery cards are most helpful in introducing students to the facts about each country in the EU and also its candidate countries. The DVD consists of 9 short films on topics such as the Single Market. The CD-ROM also contains the 9 films, interactive activities, and a printable set of resources. The CD-ROM is divided into three sections: What does Europe mean to me?, The Role of the European Parliament and its MEPs, and Making change happen. These materials offer an interactive approach and allow students to see how European Union laws and policies affect their lives. The pack is produced in order to make a sometimes difficult topic more accessible to both the teachers and the students.
